Philippe Abplanalp, born in 1956, joined the staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1983 after studying history at the University of Geneva. He first worked in the Financing and Press Divisions before becoming a documentalist/editor with the Division for Principles and Relations with the Movement in 1985. Since 1994, he has been responsible for historical research within the Directorate for Principles, Law and Relations with the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement.
