José Luis Fernández Flores y de Funes is a Spanish Supreme Court judge and professor of public and private international law at the Madrid-Alcalá de Henares University. Professor Fernández Flores, who holds a doctorate from the Madrid-Complutense University, is also a Major-General, honorary adviser on defence matters, Director of the Spanish Red Cross Centre for Research on International Humanitarian Law, Director of the Revista Española de Derecho Militar, Chairman of the Academic Committee on Military Instructions at the San Remo International Institute of Humanitarian Law, and Vice-Rector of the Society for International Studies.He has taught public international law, private international law and the law of war in a number of universities in Spain and abroad, and is a member of several national and international legal associations. Professor Fernández Flores has written many books and articles, including a Tratado de Derecho Internacional Público (Madrid, 1980), a Manual de Derecho Internacional Privado (Madrid, 1982) and Del Derecho de la Guerra (Madrid, 1982).He holds the Grand Cross of the Royal and Military Order of San Hermengildo.
