Hans-Peter Gasser has a Doctorate in Law from Zurich University (1965) and a Master of Law degree from Harvard Law School (1968). He joined the ICRC in 1970. He was delegate and later Deputy Head of the ICRC Delegation in Israel and Occupied Territories (1970 – 1972). He returned to the ICRC in 1977 as Head of the Legal Division and later as Senior Legal Advisor of the Directorate. He was Editor of the International Review of the Red Cross from 1996 – 2002. He is the author of numerous articles and lectures on issues relating to international humanitarian law and to aspects of the policy and action of the ICRC, published in the Red Cross Review or in various legal publications.
